Hypnotherapy is a wide term which covers lots of different techniques.
As a general comment hypnotherapy is just therapy whilst the client is in a different state of mind to full waking.
It is used extensively to help individuals change inner thoughts and processes to achieve relief from a particular problem or challenge. It has a proven success rate with a whole range of things, but especially stop smoking, weight control and Irritable Bowel Syndrome as well as many other emotional problems.
There have been recorded instances of hypnosis and trance, going back in time to beyond the egyptians or greeks. Many successful people dedicate time to meditate or use self hypnosis.
It is far more common place than you may expect.
